This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
Who is responsible. This website and everything it stores is run by Studio Maximiliaan, a sole trader registered in the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce no. 70218560). The treks themselves are operated by CV. Mount Rinjani Adventures in Sembalun, Lombok. For anything about your data, write to [email protected] and it reaches us.
Information we collect
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website. Google Analytics may collect:
- Your IP address
- Browser type and version
- Pages you visit
- Time spent on the website
We also collect what you give us yourself:
- Booking requests. Your name, email address, WhatsApp number, the trek, the date, the number of people, and any notes you add. We store this in our booking database, hosted with Cloudflare, and email it to your guide through Resend so he can confirm your date. The deposit is handled by Mollie, our payment provider. We never see or store your card details.
- Email sign-ups. If you ask for the prep kit, we store your email address and, if you tell us, the month you plan to trek. We keep this with MailerLite and use it to send you the kit and occasional trekking advice. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
- How you found us. The booking form asks which channel brought you here, with a “rather not say” option. We use it to decide where to spend our time and money. It stays with us and is never sent to Google, Meta or Microsoft.
How we use your data
Analytics data is used to improve the website's functionality, content, and user experience. What you send with a booking request is used only to arrange and run your trek. What you give us with an email sign-up is used only to send you the prep kit and our trekking advice.
Cookies and tracking
Nothing is placed on your device until you agree. The bar at the bottom of the page asks once, and until you answer, all tracking stays off.
You choose in two parts, and you can say yes to one and no to the other.
How the site is used. Google Analytics shows us which pages people read and how they found us. Microsoft Clarity records anonymised sessions so we can see where people get stuck; the fields where you type your name, email and phone number are masked and never recorded.
Our ads. Google Ads and the Meta pixel tell us whether an advert led to a booking, which is how we decide whether advertising is worth the money. They also let us show you a reminder of us on other sites and on Facebook or Instagram later. We do not send them your name, email address or phone number.
What Google receives even if you say no to ads. If you allow the first and refuse the second, Google still receives one signal saying you refused. It carries no cookie and no advertising identifier. This happens because our Analytics and Ads accounts are linked, and the only way to stop it would be to disconnect them, which would leave us unable to tell whether our advertising is worth the money.
Google and Meta may combine what they receive with other data they hold, and may use it for personalised advertising. That only happens after you agree.
You can change your mind whenever you like. Cookies that were already placed disappear when you clear this site's data in your browser.
Where your data goes
To run your trek, your booking details are sent to our guide Zainal in Indonesia. Indonesia has no EU adequacy decision; we send it because there is no other way to arrange a trek with a local guide, which is what you asked us to do.
Our other providers are Cloudflare (hosting and the booking database), Mollie (payments), Resend and MailerLite (email), and Google, Meta and Microsoft (the tracking described above). Several of these store data in the United States.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we collect
- Correct it if it is wrong
- Request the deletion of your data
- Object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it
- Withdraw your consent at any time, using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page
- Complain to your national data protection authority. In the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens
As an extra, you can also install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You do not need it to say no; the cookie bar is enough.
