Mount Rinjani Trek — The volcano
that changes you.

3,726 metres of volcanic rock rising from the sea. Three days to climb it. One crater lake waiting at the centre — Segara Anak, turquoise and still. This is not a hike. This is Rinjani.

Day one

The ascent
begins

The trail starts in Sembalun, a quiet village cradled by tobacco fields. Within hours, the forest swallows you. Roots underfoot, mist overhead, the sound of your own breathing. By late afternoon the tree line breaks and the grasslands open — your first camp sits on the edge of everything.

Day two

Above
the clouds

You wake at 2am. Headlamps cut single lines through darkness. The summit push is steep, relentless, and silent except for loose scree beneath your boots. Then the sun rises. The shadow of Rinjani stretches across Lombok and the sea. You stand at 3,726 metres. Below, the crater lake glows blue-green in the early light.

Day three

The descent
and the lake

Down into the caldera. The trail switchbacks through volcanic scree, then flattens at the lake shore. Hot springs steam at the water's edge. You sit in warm sulfur water and look up at the rim you stood on hours ago. The silence is total. Rinjani gives back what it took.

"I have climbed mountains on four continents. Rinjani broke me and rebuilt me."

The people who
bring you home

Zaenal

Lead guide & founder

Born in Sembalun, at the foot of Rinjani. Zaenal has guided over 500 treks to the summit. He knows the mountain the way most people know their own street — every loose rock, every weather sign, every shortcut that saves you an hour when the clouds roll in.

He built this operation from nothing. A local team, honest pricing, no middlemen. When you book, you talk to Zaenal. When you climb, Zaenal climbs with you.

"The summit sunrise made every painful step worth it. Zaenal's team kept us safe and laughing the entire way."

Rinjani is a serious climb. Steep trails, loose volcanic scree, and altitude make it challenging. A moderate to high fitness level is recommended. Regular hiking or gym training before you arrive helps, but is not strictly necessary — determination matters more than fitness.

The dry season runs from April to November. This is when conditions are safest and views are clearest. The wet season (December–March) brings heavier rain, slippery trails, and reduced visibility. Trekking is still possible but significantly more demanding and less predictable.

All guides are trained in first aid. The team carries emergency equipment on every trek. Group sizes are kept small for closer supervision. Share any health concerns before departure — the team adjusts pace and route accordingly.

Yes. Custom routes, adjusted durations, and private treks are all possible. Send a message with your preferences and the team will build a plan that fits.

Yes. Many of our trekkers come solo. You can join a small group or book a private trek. Either way, Zaenal or one of his senior guides is with you the entire time. Group sizes are kept small — usually 2 to 8 people.

Yes. Hiking boots, jackets, gloves, and other equipment are available to rent at good prices. Useful if you are travelling light or do not own specific mountain gear. Contact us for the full list and pricing.
