Rinjani
Summit

3,726 metres. The true summit. The highest point on Lombok. Two days to reach it. One sunrise you will never forget.

Start: Sembalun Difficulty: Medium All-inclusive

Day by day

The day before

Pickup & the night in Senaru

Your trek really starts the evening before. We pick you up wherever you are on Lombok, the airport, Bangsal Harbour, Senggigi, Mataram, Kuta, or your hotel, at a time we confirm with you based on your arrival. From there we drive to our guesthouse in Senaru, included in the price, where you check in, meet your guide, get the trek briefing, and rest for the night.

Day one

Sembalun to base camp

6:30: Breakfast at the Senaru guesthouse.

7:15: We leave for the Sembalun gate, about 45 to 60 minutes through Lombok's green interior, tobacco fields and quiet roads.

8:00: Registration at the Sembalun gate. Meet your porters, a final gear check, and the trek begins. Open savanna, the volcano ahead.

12:00: Lunch at Pos 2. The forest thins. Views begin to open.

15:00: Arrive at Sembalun Crater Rim (2,641m). Camp is set on the edge. The caldera drops away below, Segara Anak Lake glows in the late light.

18:00: Dinner. Early to bed. The summit push starts before dawn.

Day two

The summit at 3,726m

02:00: Wake up. Hot tea, cold air. Headlamps on.

02:30: The summit push begins. Three hours of steep, loose volcanic scree. The trail is narrow. The air is thin. You climb in the dark, following the light ahead of you.

05:30: The summit. 3,726 metres. The sun breaks the horizon. The shadow of Rinjani stretches west across the island. Bali's Agung rises from the sea. Below you, the crater lake catches the first light. You stand at the highest point on Lombok.

06:30: Begin descent. Back to camp for breakfast.

08:30: Pack up. Full descent to Sembalun gate.

14:00: Arrive at the gate. Included transfer to Mataram, Senggigi, or Bangsal Harbor.

Shared or private

Join a shared group for $210 per person, all-inclusive — and once 3 or more trekkers have locked in the same date (reservation fee paid), everyone on it pays $190 instead. The price only drops, never rises. Or run it private: your own guide, your own porters, your own pace, for a group of 1 to 10. Private prices per person — the more of you go, the less each person pays:

Private groupUSD p/p
1 person$500
2–4 persons$270
5–10 persons$250

Sending a request costs you nothing.

  • Nothing is charged until we confirm your date, usually the same day.
  • You then pay a USD 30 reservation fee per person, not the full price. The trek itself is cash on arrival, at a rupiah amount fixed with your booking.
  • Changing your date is free, any time. The fee stays valid for 12 months.
  • If the park closes or we have to cancel, you get everything back in full.

Difficulty: Medium

The summit push is the real test. Three hours of steep volcanic scree in the dark, starting at 2am. The air thins above 3,000 metres. Cold wind at the top. No technical climbing, just endurance and will. If you exercise regularly and can hike uphill for six hours, you are ready. The guides set the pace. They have done this over 500 times.

The next step up

One extra day buys you the lake, the hot springs, and the full crossing to Senaru.
