Second
Summit

Two days. The crater rim at 2,641 metres. The second summit at 3,150. Compact and intense. For trekkers short on time but not on nerve.

Start: Senaru Difficulty: Medium All-inclusive

Day by day

The day before

Pickup & the night in Senaru

Your trek really starts the evening before. We pick you up wherever you are on Lombok, the airport, Bangsal Harbour, Senggigi, Mataram, Kuta, or your hotel, at a time we confirm with you based on your arrival. From there we drive to our guesthouse in Senaru, included in the price, where you check in, meet your guide, get the trek briefing, and rest for the night.

Day one

Senaru to crater rim

6:30: Breakfast at the Senaru guesthouse.

7:30: The trailhead is right here. A short ride to the Senaru gate, no long transfer on this route.

8:00: Registration at the Senaru gate. Meet your porters, a final gear check, and the trek begins. Cool rainforest, birdsong, the volcano hidden above the canopy.

12:00: Lunch at Pos 2 in the forest. Rest in the shade. The trail steepens from here, and the trees slowly thin out.

15:00: Arrive at Senaru Crater Rim (2,641m). Camp is set. The caldera opens below you, Segara Anak Lake, turquoise and still, ringed by volcanic walls.

18:00: Dinner as the sun drops behind Lombok. Stars come out fast at this altitude.

Day two

Second summit and descent

03:00: Wake up. Hot tea in the dark. Headlamps on.

03:30: Push to the second summit (3,150m). The trail is steep. Volcanic scree shifts under your boots. Keep moving.

05:30: Sunrise from 3,150 metres. The shadow of Rinjani stretches across the island. Bali's Agung floats on the western horizon. The crater lake glows below.

06:30: Descend to camp for breakfast.

08:00: Pack up. Begin the descent back down through the forest to Senaru.

14:00: Arrive at the gate. Included transfer to Mataram, Senggigi, or Bangsal Harbor.

"We did the 2D/1N tour and even though we are not expert hikers, he was very patient with us and helped us along the way. He made sure we were all safe, hydrated and well-fed."

Private groupUSD p/p
1 person$500
2–4 persons$270
5–10 persons$250

Sending a request costs you nothing.

  • Nothing is charged until we confirm your date, usually the same day.
  • You then pay a USD 30 reservation fee per person, not the full price. The trek itself is cash on arrival, at a rupiah amount fixed with your booking.
  • Changing your date is free, any time. The fee stays valid for 12 months.
  • If the park closes or we have to cancel, you get everything back in full.

Difficulty: Medium

Steep in places. The summit push before dawn is the hardest part: loose scree, thin air, cold wind. No technical climbing. Moderate fitness required. If you can hike uphill for five hours with a daypack, you can do this. Determination matters more than training.
