Two days. The crater rim at 2,641 metres. The second summit at 3,250. Compact and intense. For trekkers short on time but not on nerve.
Day by day
Sembalun to crater rim
07:00 — Pick-up from your hotel. Drive through Lombok's interior to Sembalun village.
09:00 — Registration at the national park gate. Meet your guide and porters.
09:30 — The trek begins. Flat terrain through savanna grasslands. The mountain looms ahead.
12:00 — Lunch at Pos 2. Rest in the shade. The trail steepens from here.
15:00 — Arrive at Sembalun Crater Rim (2,641m). Camp is set. The caldera opens below you — Segara Anak Lake, turquoise and still, ringed by volcanic walls.
18:00 — Dinner as the sun drops behind Lombok. Stars come out fast at this altitude.
Second summit and descent
03:00 — Wake up. Hot tea in the dark. Headlamps on.
03:30 — Push to the second summit (3,250m). The trail is steep. Volcanic scree shifts under your boots. Keep moving.
05:30 — Sunrise from 3,250 metres. The shadow of Rinjani stretches across the island. Bali's Agung floats on the western horizon. The crater lake glows below.
06:30 — Descend to camp for breakfast.
08:00 — Pack up. Begin the long descent back to Sembalun.
14:00 — Arrive at the gate. Transfer back to your hotel or next destination. Drop-off included.
"Two days was all I had. The crater rim at sunrise was worth every step. I sat there for an hour and said nothing."

Difficulty: Medium
Steep in places. The summit push before dawn is the hardest part — loose scree, thin air, cold wind. No technical climbing. Moderate fitness required. If you can hike uphill for five hours with a daypack, you can do this. Determination matters more than training.
