Three days inside the volcano. The Senaru crater rim. The lake at the bottom. Hot springs steaming at the water's edge. This is Rinjani from the inside out.
Day by day
Senaru to crater rim
07:00 — Pick-up from your hotel. Drive north through Lombok to Senaru village, on the mountain's northern flank.
09:00 — Registration at Senaru park gate. Meet the team.
09:30 — Enter the forest. The Senaru trail climbs through dense tropical jungle. Roots, vines, birdcall. Damp air and filtered light.
12:00 — Lunch at Pos 2. Rest under the canopy.
15:00 — Break through the tree line. The Senaru Crater Rim (2,641m). The caldera opens below — Segara Anak Lake, turquoise and still, with the small cone of Gunung Barujari rising from its centre.
18:00 — Camp on the rim. Dinner with the crater at your feet. The sky darkens fast up here.
Descent to the lake
07:00 — Breakfast on the rim. Watch the sunrise paint the crater walls.
08:00 — Descend into the caldera. The trail switchbacks down volcanic scree and loose rock. Two hours to the lake shore.
10:00 — Segara Anak Lake. The water is turquoise, warm in places. The volcanic cone of Barujari sits in the middle, still active.
11:00 — Walk along the lake shore to the hot springs. Natural sulfur pools at the water's edge. Soak your legs. The silence is total.
12:30 — Lunch by the lake.
Afternoon — Free time. Swim, fish, rest. The porters prepare camp near the lake shore.
18:00 — Dinner at the lake camp. Camp fire. Stars through the crater walls.
The long way home
07:00 — Breakfast at the lake. Last look at the water.
08:00 — Climb back to the rim. The ascent is steep but shorter than you remember.
10:00 — Reach the rim. Begin the long descent through forest back to Senaru.
14:00 — Arrive at Senaru gate. Transfer back to your hotel or next destination. Drop-off included.
"The lake inside the crater is something you have to see with your own eyes. Photos do not come close."

Difficulty: Medium
No summit push on this route. The hardest parts are the initial climb through the Senaru forest and the descent into the caldera. Steep in places but manageable at a steady pace. The extra day gives your body time to recover. Good for trekkers who want depth over height — the lake and hot springs instead of the peak.
The lake is
waiting.
